Meet Jim Gaughran
A proven leader for Long Island, Jim Gaughran is running for Congress to build a safer, better future for all. Jim will protect our environment and make Long Island more affordable by restoring local tax deductions. And in Washington, Jim will fight back against extremists to secure women’s reproductive rights and pass commonsense gun safety laws.
A lifelong Long Islander, Jim was raised in Huntington before attending college at Stony Brook University and earning his law degree at Hofstra. At 26 he became the youngest person ever elected to the Huntington Town Board, and as the lone Democrat he authored bills that tackled corruption and created much needed environmental regulations. Jim continued this legacy when he was elected to the County Legislature, leading the fight to pass water protection and government reform bills.
In 2018, Jim defied the odds and won a tough race over a longtime Republican incumbent to the State Senate. As State Senator Jim championed laws to protect women’s reproductive rights, strengthen gun safety, and further protect Long Island’s waterways.
In every position that he’s served the people of Long Island, Jim has delivered critical results and provided principled, ethical leadership.
Jim lives in Northport with his wife Carol, where they proudly raised two kids.
